Did You Know What Is In The Water We Drink ?

Bisphenol A in plastic bottles, flavored water with artificial flavors, irregular washing of the bottles… it all makes bottled water an unhealthy drink.

Water is one of those things that we just assume that is good for us in every moment and in greater quantity. While the majority of people in developed countries are having drinking water, it cannot be taken for granted in all countries. What is in the water

According to the World Health Organization, each year more than 3.4 million people die due to poor water supply and poor hygiene standards that lead to diseases and infections. However, even in developed countries, problems emerge daily with drinking water. Here’s what makes the water unhealthy:
Bisphenol A

Some studies show that bisphenol – found in some plastic bottles with water may build up in the food and drinks, and thus they pose a risk to the health of infants and children. Fortunately, the market availability of these bottles is too small, but also be cautious with the plastic items that contain bisphenol A, it can keep unwanted chemicals when the plastic is exposed to the sun or washed in a dish washer.
Irregular washing of the bottles

Multiple use of the bottle is economical and ecological alternative in comparison with the one-time use, but you must keep the bottle clean. Bacteria love warm and moist places, so recharge the bottle without having to wash it is welcoming for them. Regular washing in hot water with detergent and thorough drying of the bottle keeps the germs out.
Drinking water from the shower

Shower is a fertile ground for bacteria, so people with weaker immune systems may be at risk, writes Page Health.com. Make yourself a favor and don’t drink straight from the shower.
Water with flavor

The label water flavored ingredients will discover more than “natural flavors.” Avoid these artificial sweeteners and just add a piece of fresh lemon.
Caffeine

Caffeine improves memory and concentration, but when you add it in water as some manufacturers do, it can easily be overdone. Caffeine enhanced with H2O may quench your thirst, but you can easily become irritable and restless by excessive consumption of it.

Chemical That Causes Cancer Is Discovered In Products That We Consume Daily!

In many everyday foods that are on our table, a chemical that causes tumor was discovered. It is a chemical called acrylamide, and can be found in coffee, potato chips, fried potatoes, crackers and even in some foods for babies. This dangerous compound is produced during the thermal heating while frying these foods. Children are the most exposed because of the low body weight. EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) confirmed the danger from acrylamide and already begun to propose new laws that will be a subject to supervision in the food industry, reports Daily Mail.Chemical That Causes Cancer Is Discovered In Products That We Consume Daily!

In the UK, food producers are already under pressure to change the way of processing food for the new process to reduce the amounts of acrylamide.

Why is this a dangerous compound? – “Acrylamide, when consumed orally is absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract and is distributed to all the vital organs, where is being metabolized. Glycidamide that occurs in the process causes genetic mutations and tumors that we see on the laboratory animals,” explains Dr. Diana Bedfort which is the head of the Committee of EFSA, which deals with the research on acrylamide.

Two Ways You’re Hurting Your Dog

blog-cover-sickt-02
This is part 2 of a 3 part series about pets’ immune systems (what’s hurting them, and what you can do to stop it from happening). The article has been provided by Elimay Supplements, the leading, global manufacturer and distributor of nutritious, canine supplements. To receive an exclusive, limited time offer, enter Coupon Code “HEALFIDO” at checkout.

Two Ways That You Didn’t Know You Were Hurting Your Pets

Maintaining your pet’s health can be a real challenge – similar to the way it is for ourselves. You may not always know what you’re eating, or what is going into your food – suddenly, you’re in pain and bed-ridden for days at a time. Well, unfortunately your pets aren’t really safe from dealing with that same fate.
There are thousands of cats and dogs who die every day because of infections from what they are eating and drinking. How so? A lot of it has to do with bacteria intake that quickly gets to work in attacking your pet’s immune system. A weak immune system means a weak animal. Are you taking the right steps to prevent this?
Awareness is the first step. Here are two big ways that pets can be getting infected every day:

1. Dirty Food Dishes

How often do you clean your pet’s food dish? If it’s being done less than once a day, then something needs to change. Bacteria can build up and grow with all of the saliva, dust, debris, and leftover food sitting in your pet’s dish.

How Often Should You Wash A Bowl?

This answer varies depending on what you’re feeding your pet! If you’re mostly going with wet food, then clean the dish after every single meal. Wet food is more susceptible to bacterial growth, and goes bad faster. With dry food, you want to clean a dish at least once a day. Otherwise, your little buddy may end up biting off more than he or she can chew!
Make sure you also aren’t cross contaminating food either. This can happen when you add new kibble to old kibble, re-use unwashed containers, and mixing foods into the same dish. You can get your pet sick, and sometimes the consequences can be fatal. As an extra precaution, many dog owners have had good results keeping their pets healthy with canine supplements that build up a strong immune system. That way even if they confront harmful bacteria, they can fight it.

2. Dirty Water

If you’re out taking your dog for a walk, and he stops to drink from a puddle, think twice before deciding not to pull him or her away. The same applies to cats licking at condensation from the rails of your window. A lot of this stagnant water can be home to thousands of water-borne parasites.
What do these parasites do?
Many of them are responsible for symptoms as simple as diarrhea, and as serious as liver and kidney failure. They can cause severe discomfort in your pet, and even result in early deaths. Keep your pets away from stagnant bodies of water, especially if they have immune deficiencies.

Can We Take Steps Against This?

Obviously, you want to make sure your pets are drinking healthy water and eating from clean dishes. This removes a lot of the risk that harmful bacteria will find its way into the stomach, and spread throughout the body.
Taking actionable steps to build up a strong immune system in your pet will also make it a lot stronger, preventing the chances of illnesses and early death. There are also WHO (World Health Organization) approved supplements on the market designed for keeping your pets in good health and safe from thousands of illnesses.
Using supplements to build up a strong immune system will keep your animal healthy, so that he or she can live a long, full life. It isn’t always easy keeping our pets safe, so it’s important that we do everything we can to get the job done.

Alternative Therapies for A Difficult Condition – Lupus Disease

vitddeficiencyLupus is a very distressing and fairly common auto-immune disease. Families may have a genetic pre-disposition to lupus or it may be a response to environmental factors. It’s more common in people of African descent.
The symptoms of lupus are many and various, and include aching joint, skin eruptions, swelling of the hands and feet, extreme fatigue, fever, hair loss, ulcers in the mouth and nose – a whole host of unpleasant symptoms which can be in the background or can suddenly flare up. And lupus can lead to degradation of the organs, bones to cancer and to death. It is a very serious disease indeed.
Conventional medicine as yet has no cure for lupus. There has been no new drug for lupus available for over fifty years, although researchers are working hard for treatments. As a result, conventional medical practitioners are often very agreeable to working with patients to explore alternative therapies. Alternative therapies and medicines do seem to offer relief of symptoms to many people, and are well worth considering.
Here are some of the most significant:
  • Stay out of the sun or use sunblock, and avoid fluorescent lighting indoors. Both sunshine and fluorescent light can cause skin flare ups.
Get plenty of rest. It’s often difficult for lupus patients to rest well, but mild relaxants like camomile tea can be of help.
  • Exercise can really help with symptoms like swollen joints, especially swimming if that is a possibility.
  • Give up smoking. This is great health advice for anyone, but in particular, it can bring relief for the lupus patient.
  • Make sure you have a healthy, well balanced diet. Fish seems to be helpful, but make sure you go for wild, not farmed fish. Alfalfa sprouts, generally thought of as a very good food, should be avoided, as they may cause an increase in inflammation. Keep you diet low in salt and sugar, in particular if you are taking corticosteroids.
  • Increase your Omega 3 intake, by eating oily fish like sardines and mackerel, or by taking flax seed oil supplements. This can give aching joints a lot of ease.
  • Anti-inflammatory herbs such as ginger and turmeric may well be of use. Try ginger tea, and using turmeric as a tasty spice with bean dishes, or in pickles.
  • Some drugs used for lupus, such as corticosteroids, can thin the bones, so consider taking a calcium and vitamin D supplement.
Because lupus is such a debilitating illness, it is important that you keep your spirits up. Build a good support network around you, and try to focus on the positive. When you have a good day, enjoy it to the full. Figure out what you can still do and enjoy, and make sure you do plenty of that. For example, is you love art, on good days, plan to go to a new art exhibit, or buy some good art materials and create your own work. If you enjoy being outside, find ways to get out and about whatever the weather. And importantly, have as much interaction with other people as you can.
Remember that even if you feel conscious that your joints are stiff and swollen, or you have a rash, other people probably don’t notice, or care, as much as you think. To avoid self consciousness, when you meet someone new, you can briefly explain that if you seem a bit stiff, or your skin is blotchy, or your hands are swollen, it’s because you have lupus, which isn’t contagious in any way. Then just move and and be yourself.

The 7 Most Prescribed Drugs In The World And Their Natural Counterparts

by: Dave Mihalovic

We don’t have to live in a medicated world, but we certainly choose to. The crux of the matter is that we refuse to proactively think about prevention because we reactively commit to treating the symptoms of underlying health problems. This is the allopathic model. We want the quick fix so we can continue our poor lifestyle and dietary habits. It doesn’t have to be this way, but it is. We can blame doctors, the medical institutions and healthcare systems all we want, but self-responsibility is our only recourse if we are ever to surface from this mess. There are no excuses–if you’re taking one of these drugs, consult with a Natural Health Practitioner this week about phasing out your medication and phasing in these powerful natural foods and remedies.

Of the over 4 billion prescriptions written every year, the United States and Canada make up more than 80% of the world’s prescription opioids (psychoactive medications). Between 1997 and 2012 prescription opioids increased in dosage by almost 500%. Pharmaceuticals and medical errors are now a leading cause of death. Painkillers are the leading cause of accidental death.

In the last 15 years of life, people are experiencing more pain for longer periods than at any point on our historical record. If you think life expectancy has increased to the benefit of mankind, you’re not looking at the numbers.

78% of U.S. prescriptions written in 2010 were for generic drugs (both unbranded and those still sold under a brand name). The most prescribed drugs aren’t always the best selling drugs, there’s a difference.

Prescriptions for pain, cholesterol reduction, high blood pressure, hypothyroidism, antacids, antipsychotics, diabetes and antibiotics make up 100% of the most prescribed drugs.

Make a commitment to yourself right now and start incorporating some of these amazing foods into your diet with no consequence of side effects. When you accept this, you will get off prescription medications for good.

Check out the top 7 most prescribed drugs and the best natural remedies to treat and prevent disease.

1. HYDROCODONE (Acetaminophen/Vicodin/Oxycontin)

Use: For Pain

Currently the single most prescribed drug in the world. More and more doctors are getting huge payouts from pharmaceutical companies to promote these hydrocodone, especially generic drugs. They make up more than 20% of the top prescribed medications.

Dr. Thomas Frieden, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), told Fox News that doctors are handing out narcotics like candy. Some doctors are giving patients prescriptions for narcotics for even minor injuries.

How it Works:
It is an orally psychoactive compound that works as a narcotic and analgesic. It is biotransformed by the liver into several metabolites. It is highly dependent on metabolism by the Cytochrome P450 pathway.

Consequences:
Respiratory depression; bradycardia; coma; seizures; cardiac arrest; liver damage; and death. Inherited genes such as the Cytochrome P450 affects metabolic pathways–some cannot process it at all, whereas a smaller percentage can get even more strength from it than usual.

Natural Foods:
Ginger, turmeric, berries, cayenne pepper, celery/celery seeds, cherries, dark green veggies, walnuts.
See: Natural Healing Remedies: 10 Foods That Fight Inflammation And Pain

2. STATINS (Generic versions of Lipitor/Zocor/Crestor)

Use: Reduction of LDL Cholesterol

Approximately 15% of the top prescribed medications are generic statins. A study published in January 2012 in the Archives of Internal Medicine linked statins to 48 percent increased risk for type-2 diabetes.

The are NO scientific studies ever documented which have proved through causation that lowering LDL cholesterol prevents disease. The obsessed culture of lowering cholesterol may actually be causing cancer.

How it Works:
Statins artificially lower cholesterol levels by inhibiting a critical enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, which plays a central role in the production of cholesterol in the liver.

Consequences:
Inflammation and pathological breakdown of muscle, acute kidney failure, diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease, interference with sex hormones and death.

Natural Foods:
Nuts, spinach, apples, turmeric, cranberries, tomatoes, green tea, fatty fish, beans, alfalfa herb, capsicum fruit, garlic, psyllium, fenugreek seeds, butcher’s broom, licorice root, hawthorn berry.

3. LISINOPRIL (Prinivil/Zestril) AND NORVASC (Amlodipine)

Use: Reduction of High Blood Pressure

In combination, Lisinopril and Norvasc make up a whopping 23% of the top prescribed medications. This makes them the most prescribed generic medications (if combined) for cardiovascular disease and blood pressure. Individually, Lisinopril constitutes approximately 14% and Norvasc about 9%.

How it Works:
Lisinopril is typically used for the treatment of hypertension, congestive heart failure, and heart attacks. Norvasc is used for hypertension and angina. It accomplishes this by inhibiting the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle so it essentially interferes with the metabolism of calcium.

Consequences:
Cancer, blood disorders, development of breasts in men, impotence, depression, tachycardia, enlargement of gums, inflammation of the liver, elevated blood glucose, hepatitis, life threatening skin conditions.

Natural Foods:
Any foods high in vitamin C (chili peppers, guavas, bell peppers, thyme, parsley, dark leafy greens, broccoli), any foods high in magnesium (chocolate, green leafy vegetables, Brazil nuts, almonds, cashews, blackstrap molasses, pumpkin and squash seeds, pine nuts, and black walnuts) and any foods high in potassium (mushrooms, bananas, dark green leafy vegetables, sweet potatoes, oranges and dates). Coconut oil/water and CoQ10 are also very effective for lowering blood pressure.
See:

4. SYNTHROID (levothyroxine sodium)

Use: Hypothyroidism

A synthetic form of the thyroid hormone thyroxine, generic Synthroid makes up more than 11% of the top prescribed medications. It’s used to treat hypothyroidism. The related drug dextrothyroxine (D-thyroxine) was used in the past as a treatment for elevated cholesterol but was withdrawn due to cardiac side-effects.

How it Works:
It replaces the thyroid hormone which is naturally occurring in the thyroid gland essentially halting natural production.

Consequences:
Long-term suppression of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) causes cardiac side-effects and contributes to decreases in bone mineral density (high TSH levels are also well known to contributes to osteoporosis.) May also cause elevated blood glucose levels, heart failure, coma and adrenal insufficiency. TSH directly influences the whole process of iodine trapping and thyroid hormone production so use of synthroid directly affects how the body metabolizes iodine.

Natural Foods:
Any foods containing iodine such as seaweed, kelp, radish, parsley, fish, seafood, eggs, bananas, cranberries, strawberries, himalayan crystal salt. Also, copper, iron, selenium and zinc are essential in the production of thyroid hormones. Exercise a minimum of 20-30 minutes per day — enough to raise the heartbeat.

5. PRILOSEC (omeprazole/generic versions of nexium)

Use: Antacid

A proton pump inhibitor which constitutes just over 8% of the top prescribed medications. Omeprazole is one of the most widely prescribed drugs for reflux disease (GORD/GERD/LPR) and ulcers internationally and is available over the counter in some countries.

How it Works:
It suppresses gastric acid secretion by specific inhibition of the gastric acid ions in cells. The absorption of omeprazole takes place in the small intestine essentially turning off the switch which promotes healthy digestion of foods. Omeprazole is also completely metabolized by the cytochrome P450 system.

Consequences:
Angina, ulcers, tachycardia, bradycardia, palpitations, elevated blood pressure, development of male breasts, inflammation of the pancreas, irritable colon, mucosal atrophy of the tongue, liver disease/failure, elevated blood sugar, muscle weakness, skin conditions, tinnitus, inflammation of the eyes, urinary frequency, testicular pain, anemia and blood cell disorders.

Natural Foods:
Grapefruits, probiotics, broccoli sprouts, manuka honey, mastic gum, marshmallow tea, glutamine, slippery elm, deglycyrrhized liquorice (DGL), aloe vera juice, baking soda, pickle juice.
See:
- Grapefruit Heals Stomach Ulcers

6. AZITHROMYCIN AND AMOXICILLIN

Use: Antibiotic

In combination, azithromycin and amoxicillin contribute towards a mind-blowing 17% of the top prescribed medications. Then we wonder why we have antibiotic resistance. On their own, each contributes about 8.5%. Azithromycin is one of the world’s best-selling antibiotics and derived from erythromycin. Amoxicillin is usually the drug of choice for children.

How it Works:
Inhibits the synthesis of bacterial cell walls and interfering with their protein synthesis. These drugs also inhibit the protein synthesis of good bacteria needed for immunity and proper digestion.

Consequences:
Inflammation of the liver, inflammation and destruction of the stomach lining, destruction of healthy bacterial populations, inflammation of the colon, allergic reactions, obesity, human antibiotic resistance.

Natural Foods:
Sunlight (vit D), garlic, coconut oil, turmeric, foods high in nicotinamide (vit B3) such as salmon, sardines and nuts. Also manuka honey, olive leaf extract, green tea, pau D’Arco, rose water, myrrh, grapeseed extract, golden seal, oregon grapes, oregano oil, andrographis paniculata, and probiotics.

7. GLUCOPHAGE (metformin)

Use: Oral anti-diabetic drug

Glucophage drugs round up the top 7 but the prescription rate of this drug is rapidly increasing. It makes up about 7% of the top prescribed medications. It is the first-line drug of choice for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, in particular, in overweight and obese people. It also acts to indirectly lower LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

How it Works:
By suppressing natural glucose production by the liver, the drug activates an enzyme which plays an important role in insulin signaling, whole body energy balance, and the metabolism of glucose and fats.

Consequences:
Lactic acidosis, impaired liver/kidney function, decreasing thyroid stimulating hormone and testosterone, increased homocysteine levels, malabsorption of vitamin B12, B12 deficiency, bladder cancer, heart failure. The biggest consequence of diabetes drugs is that it causes pancreatic function to substantially decrease inhibiting several hormones and causing other imbalances which are never correctable without abstaining from the drug.

Natural Foods:
Black tea, Sunlight (vit D), potentially coffee (more research needed), turmeric, nuts, chia seeds, green leafy vegetables, apple cider vinegar, cinnamon, red grapes, steel cut oatmeal, broccoli, spinach, green beans and strawberries. 90% of all cases of diabetes can be resolved by eating foods with a low glycemic load, and pursuing both weight training and aerobic exercise.

The drugs on which we spend the most money are those that are still new enough to be protected against generic competition. That’s why drugs like Abilify and Seroquel (antipsychotics), as well as Plavix (blood thinner) and Advair Diskus (asthma inhaler) don’t make the list.

Are Supplements Really Needed for Optimal Health?

supplements

The following article is written by guest columnist, Dr. J. Dempster, ND, FAAFM, ABAAHP, founder of the renowned Dempster Clinic.

How many times have you heard that supplements are merely just expensive urine?  Have you also heard that supplements are not needed as we get everything we need from our diet today?  Even worse, recent mainstream media articles have also suggested that vitamin supplements are even harmful.  It’s time to shed some light on these myths.

In truth, the first 2 comments are actually correct.  HOWEVER…  These statements are only true IF; we ate 100% organic foods, never (yes, that once a month cheeseburger counts) ate processed or fast foods, exercised regularly, got enough sleep, had low levels of stress, were not exposed to toxins, never took pharmaceutical medications, never worked in front of a computer, never used a hair dryer, etc.  Of course none of these factors could possibly apply to us…  In other words, the majority of the population is likely dealing with nutrient deficiencies.

There are literally thousands of studies proving the safety, efficacy, and effectiveness of nutritional supplementation.   For example, there are more studies done on Omega 3 supplements than any drug ever known. How many research studies are we talking about?  Well, a search of the U.S. National Institute of Health’s PubMed website finds more than 16,000!

That being said, as in most things in life quality is everything.  There are virtually dozens of options when you walk into most nutritional stores, pharmacies, and even grocery stores today.  This can be an intimidating task!  So what can we do when shopping for a nutritional supplement?
Rule of thumb #1:

If it is the cheapest product on the shelf, there is likely a logical reason for this (and one that does not warrant you putting this in your body).
Rule of thumb # 2:

When selecting which product to go with, always ensure it is a professional level, pharmaceutical grade company.  There are many of these companies around, but there are more that do not fall into this class.   Bottom line – buyer beware.

Many of us have become expert ‘Google Doctors’ and succumb to the common ‘pill for your ill’ mantra based on the latest and greatest supplement advertised or promoted in the media.  These purchases constitute an enormous part of the multi-billion dollar supplement industry.  I have a problem with this approach.  Why do we often make the assumption that what works for one person’s health issue will work for another?  Unfortunately, using this blanket protocol approach does not often work.  We are all biochemically unique, thus no one person has the exact biochemistry as that of his or her neighbor, or even family member.  Treat the person, not the disease.  In addition, many make the critical mistake thinking that by merely taking nutritional supplements will justify them staying on a toxic, nutritionally void standard American diet (coincidence that the acronym is SAD??).

Supplements are meant to supplement a proper food plan – not to replace a bad one.

As the age old adage says; more is not often better.  I regularly have new patients arrive to my clinic with bags (literally) of supplements.  During their first appointment we run a comprehensive nutritional and functional medicine analysis that provides key information regarding specific nutrient imbalances.  This opens an opportunity to create a custom nutritional/supplementation program tailored to each person’s individual health goals.  What comes at a surprise to many of my new patients is many actually walk out taking far less supplements then they were on previously.   This is not to suggest that I feel that supplementation is not helpful.  Rather, quite the contrary.  Supplements can be an extremely powerful tool to help get your health back on track.  However, this needs to be done judiciously.

I firmly believe that in today’s day and age, the healthiest people not only have an exceptional diet, but also apply an appropriate supplement protocol relevant to their specific health goals.

Isreali Airforce have Launched an Airstrike against Syrian Airbase in an Attempt for syria to transfer Sensitive weapon to Hezbollah Terrorist

After Al Arabiya reported that Israel was behind two attacks within Syria, a senior level American official confirmed to CNN that Israel was behind the attack in Latakia. According to their reports not confirmed by any other source, the goal of the attack was to stop the transfer of SA-missiles to Hezbollah.

A senior level US official confirmed that Israel attacked the port city of Latakia in north-western Syria, according to a report last night on CNN.  According to the senior level US official, the Israeli Air Force attacked military forces within the Syrian city.  Earlier on, the Al Arabiya channel reported that Israel attacked Syria twice, in Latakia and in the Syrian capital city of Damascus with the goal of preventing rocket shipments to Hezbollah.  The report was not confirmed by any official source.

Yesterday morning, the Arabic media had reported that a powerful explosion occurred on a Syrian Air Force Base near Latakia.  The Syrian Organization for Human Rights claimed that the explosion destroyed the Syrian military base.  Two days ago, the Lebanese Governmental News Agency stated that six Israeli air planes infiltrated Lebanese air space, near the capital city Beirut.

A few hours after the explosion at the Syrian Air Force base was reported, analysis of the target near the village of Snober Jabla in the north western part of the country indicated that the anti-aircraft system possessed advanced SA-missiles made in Russia.

The site of attack

The site of attack Photo Credit: Google maps

Satellite imagery of the site that was attacked shows anti-aircraft batteries involved with the NEVA Syrian defense system.  Furthermore, a missile named SA includes MANA (Fire Management Center), which includes the acquisition of radar tracks following after the target, antennas broadcasting signals and trekking devices for the missiles.

Missile launchers are located around the MANA, each one of them possessing four missiles.  The improved missile has a maximum range of 35 kilometers and has a warhead weighing 70 kilograms.  This improved missile system was developed in Russia in 2000.  The system has a long-range capability, the ability to kill multiple targets, and to kill at a higher probability.  Also, its launcher trek has improved mobility.

5 powerful antibiotics that don’t require a prescription

naturalantibiotics
Hospital antibiotics have become one of the most over prescribed “medicines” today. As a result people have ruined their digestive systems, and ironically, have lowered their natural immunity to all types of infections in the future. Get rid if infections without the digestive destruction, with these five powerful natural antibiotics.

Garlic

Garlic has been used medicinally by cultures around the world for thousands of years. In fact, it was used in the 1700s to ward off plague.
Garlic possesses potent antibiotic, antiviral, antifungal, and antimicrobial properties and is able to help protect and facilitate removal of unfriendly bacteria. It is also very high in natural antioxidants that destroy free radicals, which also supports a strong immune system.
The active ingredient in garlic, allicin, is the key component to killing and warding off harmful bacteria. Crush it to activate these compounds, and eat it raw, in a warm tea, or in lightly cooked food.

Colloidal silver

Colloidal silver has been known as an effective antibiotic for centuries. In the early 1900s, Alfred Searle, founder of the Searle pharmaceutical company, discovered that it could kill the most deadly pathogens.
Searle stated that applying colloidal silver to human subjects has been done in a large number of cases with astonishing results. The main advantage was that it was rapidly fatal to microbes without toxic action on its host.
Recent research has also stated that colloidal silver can destroy antibiotic resistant microbes like MRSA, the bird flu, and SARS.

Oil of oregano

Oil of oregano takes care of pathogenic bacteria without disrupting beneficial bacteria. It is also antiviral and antifungal which makes it a powerful three-in-one combination that rivals pharmaceuticals while not encouraging antibiotic resistance.
The key antimicrobial ingredient in oil of oregano is carvacrol. You should ensure that your source is at least 70 percent carvacrol content in order to be effective.

Echinacea

Echinacea has been used to treat a wide variety of infections for hundreds of years. Traditionally, it was used to treat open wounds, diphtheria, blood poisoning, and other bacterial related illnesses.
Today, this potent herb is used mostly for colds and flu, due to its ability to destroy the most dangerous forms of bacteria such as staphylococcus aureus, which causes deadly MRSA.

Manuka honey

Perhaps the most palatable antibiotic comes in the form of manuka honey. Applied topically it can kill a wide range of pathogens including MRSA and flesh eating bacteria. It was also found that the treated bacteria did not build up any resistance, which would eventually render manuka honey ineffective.
This is certainly not an exhaustive list of natural antibiotics, but a great start for an all natural pharmacy. Also consider reishi, pau d’arco, una de gato, olive leaf extract, cloves, turmeric, and even lemons to round out your antibiotic arsenal.

10 Nutritional Deficiencies That Cause Depression and Mood Disorders

DepressionBy Kate Freer

Depression and mood disorders are devastating health problems today. When you go to your doctor, their answer is often a prescription for one of the various popular anti-depressant drugs. Many doctors do not investigate for metabolic or nutritional deficiencies that may be the ‘real problem’ for your depression. Patients have no idea why they feel so awful or where to start looking for the answer. They expect their doctor to give them real solutions. Instead they get drugs as the easy fix. Drugs are not an easy fix because of the serious side effects that come with taking them. Doctors prescribe these drugs from information they get from the drug sales rep which often is only part-truth. The side effects and dangers of these drugs are down-played or left out altogether. Prescription drugs should only be prescribed after other medical problems have been ruled out.
Learn About 10 Nutrient Deficiencies That Cause Depression and Mood Disorder Symptoms:

If you suffer from depression or mood disorders you may be deficient in one of the nutrients below. Researchers have found that many people who suffer from depression and mood disorders are deficient in not just one nutrient but several, all contributing to the symptoms.

#1: Healthy Food Deficiency? Junk Food Diet

Is your diet filled with sugar, junk foods, sodas, or processed foods? Do you often skip meals. If you suffer from depression or mood disorders, start a food diary of the foods you eat every day. You will find answers to your health problems while doing that. Your shopping cart and refrigerator tell the story of your health. My husband works as a cashier at Walmart. People shopping for their family fill their cart with junk sugar filled cereal, chips, candy, soda, , TV dinners, and over-processed food in general. Seven-Elevens thrive on selling candy, soda, and chips to the eat-on-the-run customers. There are very few fresh vegetables or fruit on the average American’s grocery list. This is why so many Americans are obese, depressed, and suffering from diabetes. If your life is not going well, eating junk food is not going to improve your outlook.

#2: Omega-3 Fatty Acids Deficiency:

These are found in foods such as fish and Flax Seed Oil. A deficiency of Omega-3 fatty acids or an imbalance between Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids may be one of the contributing factors to your depression. Omega 3 Fatty acids are important to brain function and your mental outlook on life. They also help people who suffer from inflammation and pain problems. Researchers have found that many patients with depression and mood disorders are deficient in Omega 3 Fatty Acids. It is important to buy fish oil that has been cold processed and tested for heavy metals and other contamination. It should state that on the label.

#3: Vitamin D Deficiency:

Important to immune function, bones, and brain health. Sunlight is the richest source for natural Vitamin D. The Journal Clinical Nutrition in Jan 21st, 2013 published the result of research that analyzed over 18000 British citizens for Vitamin D deficiencies and associated mental disorders links. They found that a deficiency of Vitamin D was present in patients with depression and panic disorders. The study results stated that people who are deficient in Vitamin D are at higher risk for developing depression later in life. Most seniors are deficient in Vitamin D. Often people working long hours in offices are deficient as well. Get out in the sun. Take a walk during your lunch break or walk your dog. Play a game with your kids outside away from computers and the television. Get out of the house and into the sunshine. Just don’t overdo it if you are sensitive to the sun. Overdoing it is not good either.

#4: B-Vitamins Deficiency:

There is much research in Neuropsychiatry that proves the link between B-Vitamin deficiencies and mood disorders including depression. Buy gel capsules instead of tablets with at least 25 mg for each of the different B- Vitamins included in the formulation.

#5: Zinc , Folate, Chromium, and Iron Deficiencies:

Patients with depression are often found deficient in many nutrients including these. Often today’s foods are sadly lacking in minerals and trace minerals.

#6: Iodine Deficiency:

Iodine is necessary for the thyroid to work properly. The thyroid, part of the endocrine system, is one of the most important glands in your body. The thyroid gland affects every function of the body including body temperature, immune function, and brain function. Iodine is found in foods such as potatoes, cranberries, Kelp, Arame, Hiziki, Kombu, and Wakame. This problem was once solved by using Iodine enriched salt. Today iodine deficiency is again becoming a problem with salt free diets. Salty chips, processed foods, and junk food do not contain iodized salt.

#7: Amino Acids Deficiency:

There are 9 necessary amino acids that cannot be manufactured in your body. You must supply them to the body by eating quality food choices.

Amino acids are found in meat, eggs, fish, high quality beans, seeds and nuts. You need to eat a variety of different foods to furnish the body with all the amino acids needed to be healthy. Not all foods contain all nine amino acids. Vegetable food sources for amino acids include Moringa Oleifera leaves. Your brain uses the amino acids found in the food you eat to manufacture neurotransmitters needed for optimal brain function.

What are neurotransmitters and what do they have to do with depression?

Healthy brain function needs the proper balance of neurotransmitters. Some neurotransmitters calm the brain and others excite the brain. Their balance in the brain creates stability of emotions and thinking. Often depression and other mental disorders are caused by imbalances in neurotransmitters. Dopamine, noradrenaline, and GABA are three important neurotransmitters often deficient in depression. Orthomolecular physicians have found that treatment with amino acids including tryptophan, tyrosine, phenylalanine, and methionine can correct different mood disorders like depression. The Orthomolecular doctor first takes urine and blood samples to test your amino acid levels. Then if he finds imbalances, you will be given amino acid supplements in the optimal dosage to correct the problem. Orthomolecular doctors treat the base cause for the depression or mental symptoms. If it is a nutritional imbalance such as a Omega 3 deficiency, you will be prescribed that supplement. Instead of treating with drugs, they treat the deficiencies that cause the mental symptoms with vitamins, minerals, and amino acids.

There are tests that prove nutrient deficiencies. The problem is often your standard medicine doctor will not give clearance for the tests, nor will your insurance pay for them. Most doctors are not schooled in nutrition and diet. They have no time to go over your eating and lifestyle habits. Saying that, a few companies and health providers exist who do have preventive health programs. The reality is a majority of people do not get quality preventive healthcare, especially those on Medicaid or Medical. You need to visit a holistic doctor who knows his nutrition. More than likely you will have to pay out-of-pocket for the tests. You can go through Life Extension Institute. After becoming a member, you can receive the tests through the mail. You take the kit to a lab to get your blood drawn. You then send the kit back by mail and receive the results by mail. They do not give you interpretation for the tests nor how to correct the problems found by testing. You can at least find out what vitamins and minerals you are deficient in. Drug-focused therapy is the main reason that so many people never get diagnosed properly. Insurance plans will pay for drugs but not nutritional supplements. That is the sad state of our health care system here. You must take control of your health and find a doctor whose goal is holistic and preventative medicine.

Here is Why You Should Not Throw Away The Peel of Some Fruits and Vegetables

Sometime fruit and vegetable waste can positively effect your general health, so do not throw it away, but learn how to use it wisely.

Orange peel
Orange peel contains four times more fiber than the fruit itself. It also contains more flavonoids, such as tangeretin and nobiletin, which have anticancer and anti-inflammatory effect, and prevent diabetes.

A study showed that orange peel is more powerful in reducing bad cholesterol, compared to some drugs.

Spinach Stalks
A study conducted in the German Institute for Food Technologies showed that spinach stalks contain more glutamine, an amino acid which strengthens the immune system and stimulates the body’s ability to recover after an injury or an operation.

Bruce Sherman, a world famous chef, wraps spinach stalks in bundles from six to eight and leaves them in a special marinade, made of red wine, honey and garlic.

Celery Leaves
These leaves have five times more magnesium and calcium than the stalks. They are rich in vitamin C and phenol, a powerful antioxidant and nutrients with anti-inflammatory properties. Finely chop the leaves and add them to your salad or use them as a garnish for your fish and chicken.

Broccoli Leaves
30 grams of broccoli leaves contain 90 per cent of the recommended daily intake of vitamin A. Prepare broccoli leaves same as spinach. Steam cook them for a while, add some olive oil and garlic.

Watermelon Rind
You may not believe it, but the inner white layer of the watermelon rind can also provide some health benefits. It contains citrulline, an amino acid important for the dilation of the blood vessels and it also improves the blood circulation.

Chop the rind together with the inner sweet part and make yourself a refreshing juice, or make a cocktail by adding some rum, gin or vodka.

Onion Skin
Onion skin is contains more quercetin than the onion itself. Quercetin is a plant pigment with strong antioxidant effect, and it reduces high blood pressure. Even though you may know that onion skin works perfectly for your Easter eggs, but you can also add some to make your dish even more delicious.

The only thing you should remember is to take out the peel before you serve the meal.

What Happens To Our Body After We Drink Coca-Cola?

If you are a first-time visitor, please be sure to like us on Facebook and receive our exciting and innovative tutorials on health topics and natural remedies.

Have you ever wondered why you drink Coca-Cola (or any other Cola) with joy? It is because it acts like a drug, even though cocaine has not been used in the production of this drink for more than 100 years.

You have just consumed 10 tsp of sugar. But you will not throw up because of the phosphoric acid which lowers the sweet taste.

20 minutes after drinking Coca-Cola (0.25)

The amount of sugar in the blood increases suddenly and causes insulin explosion. Our liver reacts by turning blood sugar in fat (in this moment the liver is too busy).

40 minutes after drinking Coca-Cola (0.25)

Caffeine consumed through Coca-Cola is completely absorbed. Eye pupils grow, blood pressure increases, and as a result the liver pumps even more sugar in the blood stream. Adenosine receptors (found in the brain) are blocked and we do not feel dizzy.

45 minutes after drinking Coca-Cola (0.25)

Body increases dopamine production, which stimulates joy center in brain. Heroin has the same effect.

1 hour after drinking Coca-Cola (0.25)

Phosphoric acid reacts with calcium, magnesium and zinc in colon, causing additional explosion in metabolism. Large amounts of sugar and artificial sweeteners complicate this condition even more and also increase the release of calcium in urine.

More than an hour after drinking Coca-Cola (0.25)

Diuretic effects of caffeine affect our body (increased need of urinating). In this phase all calcium, magnesium and zinc amounts, meant for our bones and body, as well as natrium electrolytes, are released from the body.

2 hours after drinking Coca-Cola (0.25)

The chaos in our body calms and we start feeling the lack of sugar. In this moments you are easily irritated and upset. By now you have released all the water from the Coca-Cola. But this water has previously connected to the most important substances in our body necessary for our teeth, bones and nerves. This is the main reason why in this moment your body does not have the minerals necessary for normal function.

Few hours after drinking Coca-Cola (0.25)

The new habit you have created makes the organism feel the lack of caffeine and need for another dose of Coca-Cola.

What Will Happen If You Eat Bananas With Spots?

The survey that was conducted by Japanese scientists brought to conclusions related to the consumption of those bananas that are ripening in the supermarkets that we are all skillfully avoiding. What Will Happen If You Eat Bananas With Spots

Consumption of this banana is eight times even healthier than green bananas or any other fruit. If compared with grapes, apples, watermelons, pineapples and pears, bananas contain mostly anticancer compounds.

As the banana ripens, it develops dark spots on the bark. The more spots, the banana is richer in immunity developing cells. At this stage of ripening, the banana is best for digestion because the sugar from the banana is easily absorbed, unlike the green ones.

The Best Foods and Herbs to Cleanse Your Kidneys

The kidneys are major organs in your body and are responsible for clearing waste from your body, balance body fluids, form urine, and help in other important functions of the body. Every day the kidneys process the blood to sift out waste products and extra water. These become urine, which flows to the bladder through the ureters.

If not eliminated correctly, toxins can build up in the body and can cause problems such as kidney stones and high blood pressure. Cleansing your kidneys helps to eliminate toxins, improve urine flow and improve kidney function.

Important note – people with kidney disease or other medical condition may need special diet requirements and should follow their doctor or dietitian guidelines.

Foods to Cleanse Your Kidneys
The kidney can cleanse itself if you consume enough amount of fluids, which can come from foods such as fruits and vegetables as well as water and other liquids.

Water – staying hydrated and keeping your urine diluted is important for keeping your kidneys healthy. Water is the best choice, and drinking plenty of water throughout the day help your kidneys function properly. Staying hydrated is especially important if you exercise frequently or in a hot weather. In these cases you need to drink more water than usual to make up for the fluid lost by sweating.

It is important to note that if you have kidney disease, you may not need as much water, because damaged kidneys cannot get rid of extra fluid as well as they should. Depending on your stage of kidney disease and your treatment, your doctor may tell you to limit fluid consumption.

Healthy Eating
A balanced diet ensures you get all the minerals and vitamins your body needs. Fruits and vegetables improve your kidney function. If you suffer from kidney disease, you may have some nutritional restrictions that your doctor recommended. You may need to avoid certain foods if you have kidney damage, for example following low-potassium or low-phosphorous diet.

Some good foods to eat for healthy kidneys include:
Watermelon – watermelon contains a lot of water and also has a function of diuretic which can make people produce more urine so as to remove more wastes from the body. Also read my article how to use watermelon as a medicine.

Lemon juice – you can add to your water half a cup lemon juice a day, as lemon juice helps to reduce kidney stone formation. You can also use apple cider vinegar instead of a lemon: simply mix 6 teaspoons or so in about a gallon of purified water and drink throughout the day.

Berries- berries are very rich in antioxidants and contain many disease fighting qualities. They help to flush out uric acid from the kidneys thus keeping them healthier. Cranberries and blueberries are the best choice among all the berries, as they contain a substance that washes away the urea and uric acid from the kidneys. Also red grapes are very good for the kidneys. To learn more about the amazing healing properties of cranberries and blueberries, as well as other berries, have a look at my e-book The Healing Berry Guide. This e-book will teach you how to transform your health with berries and is a must for berry lovers.

Apples – apples are high in antioxidants and fiber and have anti-inflammatory compounds which can improve kidney function.

Pumpkin seeds – pumpkin seeds are very good for the kidneys as they are wonderfully rich in a number of antioxidants, minerals and vitamins. Pumpkin seeds can promote healthy kidney function by reducing the risk of kidney stones. Find here how to use pumpkin as a remedy.

Herbs to Cleanse Your Kidneys

Here are some herbs that help cleanse the kidneys:
1. Ginger – ginger contains antioxidant compounds beneficial for kidney function. It also has cleansing properties and it purifies the blood and kidney of all toxins. Read more about ginger in my article how to use ginger as a medicine for great health.

2. Turmeric- turmeric is rich in antiseptic properties and is used to treat many ailments. It has anti-inflammatory properties so it can help prevent and treat kidney inflammation and kidney infections. Read more about the amazing health benefits of turmeric.

3. Dandelion – dandelion leaves are especially one of nature’s best diuretics. They strengthen the kidneys, clearing water retention and promotes urination, and thus soothe irritations in the urinary system. Fresh or dried, all parts of the plant can be brewed into a refreshing tea that has diuretic properties. If you suffer from urinary tract infection, read my article how to treat urinary tract infection naturally.

4. Nettle – another herb that is used to benefit the blood and treat urinary tract infections. It has diuretic effect and keeps water flowing through the kidneys and bladder, washing bacteria away. Its high iron content makes it a great blood builder as well. Steep fresh or dries nettles in hot water for 10-15 minutes for a detoxifying, diuretic tea.

5. Parsley – this is one of the best foods that helps flush kidneys of all the toxins and is also beneficial for treating kidney stones and urinary tract infection. You can either include this food in your salad or other dishes or prepare parsley tea.

6. Marshmallow root – the root of the marshmallow plant is also a diuretic and is good for the kidneys. It helps to treat urinary problems such as urinary tract infection, kidney stones and bladder infections. Marshmallow root is considered a safe herb although it is recommended to take it several hours after taking prescription medications as it may inhibit their absorption.

7. Juniper – Juniper berries improve kidney function.  They are used for urinary tract infections and kidney and bladder stones. Juniper might also increase the need to urinate. Don’t take juniper berry if you have a kidney inflammation. Don’t use it continuously for more than 4 weeks, and don’t take juniper berry during pregnancy.

8. Yarrow – yarrow not only works as a diuretic, encouraging the kidneys to expel waste and water, but it has the added benefit of containing antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. While the diuretic action increases urine flow, the antiseptic action helps fight bacteria that can cause urinary tract infections.

9. Red clover – another diuretic herb that stimulates the removal of waste and water from the kidneys.

Herbal treatments are very versatile and effective. If you are interested in natural and herbal remedies, you can find more useful information in my e-book The Herbal Remedies Guide. This guide will teach you how to treat common ailments using herbs.
More Tips to Cleanse Your Kidneys

There are several methods of caring for your kidneys and reducing your risk of kidney disease that have been proven scientifically:

1. Smoking, alcohol and caffeine – avoid smoking and excessive consumption of alcohol and caffeine. Smoking and drinking too much alcohol means that your kidneys have to work harder to remove toxins from your blood.

2. Blood pressure – maintain normal blood pressure, blood sugar levels and cholesterol levels. High blood pressure can increase your risk of kidney problems. Read here how to reduce high blood pressure naturally.

3. Salt – salt is a mineral substance composed primarily of sodium chloride. Too much sodium can increase your blood pressure. This can damage your kidneys more and make your heart work harder. So limit how much sodium you eat.

4. Maintain a proper weight – excessive weight increases your blood pressure, which is bad for your kidneys.

The kidneys are one of the main systems and organs that your body uses to detoxify itself. If you are interested in cleansing your body, you can find more useful information in my e-book The Detox Guide. This guide will teach you how to use detox to cleanse and energize your body naturally and safely:

Early Signs of Kidney Disease & How to Protect Your Kidneys

Kidney disease is a serious medical issue with an unfortunate prevalence in our society. Without use of these organs, waste will pile up and pollute our bodies. Research has shown that over 20 million individuals in the United States exhibit some level of dysfunction with their kidneys. Certain factors such as blood pressure and insulin sensitivity can make you even more likely to be part of the 20% of people affected by this disease.
The Importance of Kidneys

Kidneys are kind of like the custodial staff of the body – except without their custodial effort you can’t live. They are made to function in several ways to ensure the healthy function of your internal processes. The small organs filter out any harmful waste and excess toxins while balancing blood pressure and essential nutrients.
Without kidneys our bodies wouldn’t be able to:

Keep water and essential minerals balanced in the bloodstream.
    Maintain a healthy blood pressure.
Extract chemicals and waste that come from the digestion process, taking medication, and physical exertion.
Activate vitamin D for healthy bones.
Increase the production of red blood cells to deliver oxygen through the body.

Even bodily processes that seem healthy like metabolic function produce waste products that are harmful for the body. Risk factors surround us and happen regularly within our own body, but with our kidneys at work we don’t have to worry about them.
What Causes Kidney Disease

As mentioned earlier, some diseases can serve as a predisposition for kidney disease. Diabetes and blood pressure issues are the top contributors to this health issue. If you have a high blood pressure stay mindful of the possibility of kidney problems in the future. When you visit the doctor keep a close watch over your blood sugar and blood pressure levels and ask the physician if they are normal.
Kidney disease can also be passed on through genetic issues. If your family has a history of autoimmune disease or polycystic kidney disease you are more vulnerable to kidney problems in the future. Birth defects and improper use of medication can cause to kidney damage. Harmful habits like drinking, smoking, poor diet, and lack of exercise can also contribute.
Early Signs of Kidney Disease

The trouble with kidney disease is that many people fail to act upon the issue until the condition has become severe. The symptoms can be a tad general in the early phase, allowing someone to simply brush them off or associate them with some other illness. Your kidneys also have a great ability to adapt to the disease as they lose function. The following symptoms will appear in the early stage of kidney disease and slowly worsen over time.

Feeling easily tired and experiencing a lack of strength
Changes in urination, such as blood in the urine or changes in the amount and number of times urine is passed
    Troubles with sleeping
    Nausea and vomiting
    Irregularities in the digestive routine
Disinterest in eating food and bad metallic taste in the mouth
Lack of focus and mental clarity
    Hiccups
    Swollen ankles or feet
Pain above the waist in the back of the body (where the kidneys are)
    Muscle spasms and cramping
    Unstable blood pressure
    Loss of breath
    Skin rash or chronic itching

Detecting these signs early on is essential. If kidney problems aren’t addressed early on, then the damage can quickly become irreversible. Nobody wants to have to struggle through the misfortune of dialysis and treatment for the disease.

If you exhibit some of these symptoms or worry that you might have a vulnerability to kidney issues consult a physician immediately. The symptoms are fairly general so there is a chance they could be from some other illness. It’s never too safe to be sure, and the sooner you tackle kidney disease the better.
How to Strengthen Your Kidneys

A few small changes in your everyday life can lead to a life-saving difference down the road. These five changes to your lifestyle and nutrition will reduce your risk of disease by protecting your kidneys.
Lifestyle Changes

1. Blood pressure plays a big part in kidney function. Keeping yours at a healthy level (around 130/80) will help reduce damage to the kidneys. Find here more information how to reduce high blood pressure naturally.
2. Smoking and drinking should be avoided because they wreak havoc on your kidneys.
3. Get active with more exercise. It will strengthen your entire body and give you more energy to love life. It will help you to keep optimal body weight and reduce your risk of obesity, diabetes and hypertension, that can reduce kidney functioning over time.
4. Consider supplements that provide calcium and vitamin D if you feel you don’t get enough on a daily basis. Always consult with your doctor before taking them.
5. Limit using painkillers and steroids and only when you feel they are absolutely necessary. Overuse of them can lead to kidney damage. Try instead to use these top 22 natural painkillers.
Nutritional Changes

1. Stay mindful of your sodium intake. Keep the salt and potassium you ingest at a moderate level.
2. Maintain a healthy nutrition. Eat meals with small amounts of cholesterol and saturated fat.
3. Maintain low protein diet. Too much protein is bad for the kidneys. Ask your physician how much you should eat daily according to your body type.
4. A sufficient amount of calories is necessary for the kidneys, so starving yourself for weight loss isn’t a great idea.
5. Watermelons, apples and berries are among the foods that should be at the top of your grocery list – find more information in my article about the best foods and herbs to cleanse your kidneys.
6. Stay hydrated. Drink about 8 glasses of fluid, preferable water, every day.

Kidney disease is a sobering reality that plagues thousands of families every single year. Damage to the kidneys can’t be repaired but it can be lived with if detected early enough – though prevention is the best choice. Taking responsibility for your own health isn’t just for yourself. It’s for the friends and family you treasure and the impact your life can have on the world when it is lived to the fullest.

15 Common Habits That Can Damage Your Kidneys

Did you know that you can live a pretty normal life with only 20% of your kidney function? That is why a steady decline and gradual damage to your kidneys can often go unnoticed for a long time. Sometimes, even common habits can cause damage to your kidneys and when the problems are finally discovered, it can be too late.

Our kidneys are an amazing organ. They produce hormones, filter blood, absorb minerals, produce urine and maintain a healthy acid-alkaline balance. There is no life without the kidneys, and the Chinese view them as the seat of essential life energy.

Looking after your kidneys goes hand in hand with looking after your health and well-being. If you want your kidneys to thrive and serve you well for the foreseeable future, here is a list of habits you should avoid:

1. The Sugary Soda Habit – A study carried out on employees at Osaka University in Japan suggested that drinking two or more soda drinks a day (diet or regular) may be connected with a higher risk of kidney disease. 12,000 employees were included in the study, and those that consumed larger amounts of soda were more likely to have protein in their urine. Protein in urine (proteinuria) is an early sign of kidney damage, but, when discovered at that stage, the disease can still be reversible.

2. Smoking – Smoking has been linked to arthrosclerosis. The narrowing and hardening of blood vessels affects the blood supply to all vital organs, including the kidneys. According to the study published in Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, two cigarettes a day are enough to double the number of endothelial cells present in your blood. This is a signal of arterial damage. Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology cites many different studies conducted since 2003 which all link smoking to decreased kidney function.

Further reading: smoking is one of the bad habits mentioned in my previous article about 10 habits to stop right now if you want to be healthy.

3. Vitamin B6 deficiency – A healthy diet is important for good kidney function. According to the studies performed at the University of Maryland Medical Center, vitamin B6 deficiency increases your risk of kidney stones. For optimal kidney function, you should consume at least 1.3 milligrams of vitamin B6 daily. The richest sources of this vitamin include fish, chickpeas, beef liver, potatoes and starchy vegetables, and non-citrus fruits.

4. Lack of exercise – Exercise is another good way to protect your kidneys. A large study published in 2013 in the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology suggested that postmenopausal women who exercised had 31% lower risk of developing kidney stones. Generally speaking, maintaining a healthy weight will reduce your chances of kidney stones, so get moving.

Further reading: Read my article about how to treat kidney stones naturally.

5. Magnesium deficiency – If you don’t get enough magnesium, calcium can’t get properly absorbed and assimilated, which can result in calcium overload and kidney stone formation. To prevent that, consume green leafy vegetables, beans, seeds and nuts. The mighty avocado is a good source of magnesium as well.

Further reading: Find here the top signs that you have magnesium deficiency and what to do about it.

6. Frequent sleep disruption – We all like a good night’s sleep. And so do our kidneys. Science Daily reports that chronic sleep disruption can cause kidney disease. According to Dr. Michael Sole, Cardiologist and founding director of the Peter Munk Cardiac Center and Professor of Medicine and Physiology at the University of Toronto, kidney tissue gets renewed during the night, so sleep interruptions can cause direct damage to this organ.

Further reading: find 23 dangers of sleep deprivation in my previous article.

7. Not drinking enough water – Our kidneys need to get properly hydrated to perform their functions. If we don’t drink enough, the toxins can start accumulating in the blood, as there isn’t enough fluid to drain them through the kidneys. The National Kidney Foundation suggests drinking at least 12 glasses of water per day. An easy way to see if you’re drinking enough is to check the color of your urine.

Further reading: Find here the best foods and herbs to cleanse your kidneys. If you are interested to learn more about herbs and on how to use them to treat common ailments then you should read my e-book “Herbal Remedies Guide“.

8. Not emptying your bladder early – When nature calls, you should listen. Retaining urine in your bladder is a bad idea. If done on regular basis, it can increase the urine pressure in your kidneys and lead to renal failure or incontinence.

9. Consuming too much sodium – Salt is important for the body, but you should limit your intake. Over consumption can raise your blood pressure and put too much strain on the kidneys. No more than 5.8 grams of salt should be eaten daily, so take it easy with that salt shaker.

Further reading: Read my article about different types of salt and their benefits.

10. Consuming too much caffeine – We often consume more caffeine than we think we do. It features in many soft drinks and sodas, and before you know it, your blood pressure goes through the roof and your kidneys start complaining.

11. Pain-killer abuse – Way too often we take medications too fast, in too big doses and not in the right way. When pain occurs, it’s so easy to just swallow the pill. But, you should think twice. All pharmaceutical drugs come with side effects, and many cause damage to the kidneys. Having said that, there are some drugs that you should be taking. See the next point.

12. Missing your drugs – High blood pressure and diabetes are two very common conditions that are often brought on by our life style and unhealthy diet. 13. Too much protein – According to Harvard University, too much protein in your diet can harm the kidneys. 14.  Not treating common infections quickly and properly – We are all guilty of sometimes ignoring simple colds and flu, and pushing our bodies to the brink of exhaustion.
